The Basics of Squash

Equipment

Red or blue dot ball

Beginners should only use these as they bounce more, allowing for a better game!

Non-marking shoes

To protect the court floor, only wear clean indoor trainers with non-marking soles.

Rules

Always warm up

Hit the ball gently together for a few minutes to loosen up and to warm the ball up.

Take turns hitting the ball against the front wall within the court lines

Win the rally by returning your opponents’ shot to the front wall before the ball bounces twice

If you win a rally, you win a point and the right to serve the next one. First to 11 points wins the game!

Squash is a non-contact sport

If there’s a chance you may run into your opponent, or hit them with the ball or racket, stop and replay the point. This is known as a let.

There are many additional rules; find them on the England Squash website here
